The cottage first belonged to my grandparents in the 1920s, my children are the fourth generation and now my grandchildren make it the fifth generation of my family to live here.
I think this must be something of a record!
Originally it was only two rooms with an earth floor and the mountain road was only a track. They used it as a holiday retreat, which must make it one of the first holiday cottages. They travelled to Fishguard on the Great Western and from there by pony and trap.
Harmony & relaxation
It has always been a place of harmony and relaxation and country adventures and pursuits. As children my father and aunt would be off up the mountain for hours, sometimes taking a picnic or sausages and a frying pan, which tradition, I, in my time and my children in theirs, have continued: or else spending hours damming up the stream or making up other imaginary water games. |
