Countryside
|
Newport is an excellent point for many activities. |
Walking
 |
|
For walkers, you have the Preseli hills and the Pembrokeshire coastal paths which
runs for 168 miles from St. Dogmeals to Amroth, going through Newport.
The coastal path offers two good walks from Newport, one towards
Dinas Island and the other way to Ceibr, a favourite with broadcaster
Wynford Vaughan Thomas.

Beaches
 |
|
Newport
has two beaches, the mile long big beach - Traeth Mawr, which is
ideal for bathing and beach games, and the little beaches and coves
on the Newport harbour Parrog side. These have lots of small rock
pools in smooth washed rocks.
Newport is also a centre for sailing, wind-surfing and water-skiing.
Boats can be hired. Regattas, Shows and Festivals punctuate the
summer months.
There is a 9 hole Golf Course adjacent to the big beach. |
Pony Trekking
 |
There is a pony-trekking centre on the Gwaun valley road, about
a mile away, from which parties can ride onto Carningli Common.
There is fishing for trout and salmon in the nearby River Nevern
and in the Teifi above Cardigan. Trout fishing is also available
in two local reservoirs. There is good sea fishing in Newport Bay.

Wildlife
 |
|
For wildlife enthusiasts, North Pembrokeshire is a paradise. You will see many birds from the cottage, among which are buzzards, herons and dippers, also rabbits and foxes and other wild creatures.
In the wooded valleys nearby, there are badgers, otters, mink and many bird species. The bird life of the coast is justly famous and for the bird enthusiast a visit to the island of Skomer or Stokholm is a must.
